Hondo's On Main
About This Spot
Stepping into Hondo’s On Main feels like joining a lively neighborhood gathering where the hum of conversations blends effortlessly with the occasional strum of live music. Nestled on Main Street in Fredericksburg, this spot balances the casual comfort of a well-loved local pub with the warm buzz of an American eatery that welcomes both familiar faces and curious newcomers.
The pace here is unhurried but vibrant — a place where people linger not just over their plates but over moments shared. Ordering happens at the bar, where friendly staff keep things relaxed and approachable, and guests collect their food through a kitchen window, creating a charming, informal rhythm. Many settle in armed with a cold drink, soaking in an atmosphere that’s part barroom cheer, part communal living room.
Hondo’s menu is a playful tribute to Texas favorites, where the richness of smoky ribs and tender brisket meets unexpected twists like popsicle margaritas and fresh fried parmesan potato chips. The flavors invite you to explore that familiar feeling of home-cooked food alongside the excitement of discovering new favorites — like a tangy pineapple margarita, or a crispy jalapeno-studded dish that beckons to be shared.
Accompanying the food and drinks is a sense of sincerity — this is a place rooted in real human connections, where dishes arrive with a friendly nod to tradition and a wink to bold, spirited flavors. Whether it’s the comforting sizzle of a Texas Fried Steak or the bright, fresh crunch of sweet potato fries, each visit unfolds quietly, like stepping into a space that’s been carefully shaped by the people who call Fredericksburg their home.

This was some of the best food we've had in a long time. The burger was fresh and tasted like it had been grilled outside, the hot dog was great, and the quesadilla was fresh. The chili was hands down the best item we had. There were no beans! The popsicle margarita was surprisingly good. Ended up ordering another! The salsa, guac, and nachos were good. Honestly, everything was amazing. Can't say enough about this place! Sat outside in the covered seating during a rain storm and it was dry and peaceful. Will be back again.

The food was great. I had the Poblano Chicken Sandwich, my wife had the BBQ Brisket Sandwich. We got one of each of the sides Onion Strings, Fresh Parmesan Potato Chips, Curly Q Fries and Sweet Potatoes Fries. All 4 were tasty. Definitely going back for a burger.

A self-service establishment: order at the bar, receive a pager, fetch your own soda/tea, pick up your food at the indoor kitchen window. Great food. Try the house made chips!

Good food and the Ice tea was tasty. The salad was delicious. Fajitalada was different, another way to eat enchiladas and fajitas , Brisket sandwich was delicious as well. Sweet potato fries awesome.

I came here for dinner and really enjoyed the atmosphere. There was live music at the time and people were enjoying a meal and dancing to the music. I went for the brisket platter, which unfortunately want that great. The brisket itself was quite tough and not comparable with real Texas BBQ places in the area. The coleslaw was also a bit bland. Some of the other dishes I saw looked fantastic, so perhaps I just chose the wrong dish.

Had the chicken fried chicken and mashed potatoes… SOOOO GOOD!! Definitely a must if you’re visiting Texas for the first time. You’re seated and given a menu and order up front. Once your buzzer goes off, you pick your own food up… no servers, it’s great! There’s also a patio with live music, definitely recommend.

We love eating outdoors! Hondo's On Main has a lovely outdoor area perfect for dining al fresco. Their appetizers were quick and tasty, especially if you like cheese! The pimento and brisket balls were yummy. Everyone enjoyed their food. The Slob Cobb Salad with the vinaigrette dressing was exactly what I wanted to eat to help me cool down after a hike up The Enchanted Rock. The band was great! I didn't catch their name, but I'll try to post a video. The restrooms were clean and well stocked. When it began to rain, we were able to quickly find a table indoors. The staff were friendly and available for food delivery, clean up, and taking trays. Their method of paying at a window and using a buzzer/beeper when the food was ready seems to make ordering and receiving food very efficient. Drinks were self serve, which is nice because... no waiting!! I will definitely return. Thanks for a great experience!
